about

Paul Luc Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Tried my hand in the nine-to-five world but left to go my own way. The independent spirit is not dead and I'm inspired by restless people who choose to live, not just exist. Pittsburgh is where my heart is.

As a kid, I absorbed sounds from my parents record collection: The Band, Neil Young, CSN, John Lennon...which led me to Van Zandt, Dylan, Prine...all the good stuff.

Track Name: The Way That It Is
Take me to a wizard who’s precise with his scissors, cut me open and tell me if It’s tin or is it tissue, is it why that I miss you, is a wicked witch cursing me?

Always in the back, and always bustling
Thoughts pelt me like hail.
Climb up to the top of all those worries and look at life, oh well, that’s the way that it is.

Take me to a wizard who has infinite wisdom, fortitude and bravery. Is there a yellow belly in me just a coward and skinny and afraid of dying?

Always in the back, and always bustling
Thoughts pelt me like hail.
Climb up to the top of all those worries and look at life, oh well, that’s the way that it is.

Take me to a wizard who has delicate fingers, look deep down inside my brain. Is it a tangled mess of ropes; my dreams, thoughts, hopes, sparks firing from synapses?

Always in the back, and always bustling
Thoughts pelt me like hail.
Climb up to the top of all those worries and look at life, oh well, that’s the way that it is.
Track Name: Idol
I turned the television on, to hear those songbirds carry on.
I tuned into that drab recital, they claimed I’d find a brand new idol,

But it felt like something good was dying.

She sang a legendary song, with something desperately wrong.
There were fourteen thousand notes inside, a space where four plain notes should reside.
It felt like, it was masturbation, on the TV station.

It felt like something good was dying.

Asked about the music she was raised upon, was it Paul, George, Ringo Starr, and John?
With her mini-skirt and bashful eyes, claimed she’d never heard of those four guys.
She’d been singing, “Hey Jude, don’t make it bad”; now my whole world was sad.

If felt like something good was dying.

So I jumped into my car to drive; I flicked the radio alive.
I heard another shallow song, turned the dial that same song was on –
Every station, it felt like indoctrination, like no one’s even trying.

And it felt like, something good was dying.
Track Name: Good Times
Give my guitar to my good friend Christian, you may
Find him somewhere in Nashville singing.
Tell him I gave my heart to that Gibson every night.
Tell him he should sing his songs until he loses his mind.

That was my good time.

Say goodbye to my sisters and my mother, they were
The only women who I carried in my heart
And tell them sorry that I had a hard time showing it and I left them –
All my money go and buy something nice, something –
Unnecessary, hell, you only live once.

That was my good time.

Say goodbye to my old man, he was always
Pissed off that everything’s made in China, tell him to
Go get his truck and come and pick up my bike, it was
Love or hate with that Harley of mine, it was
Hard to start when you’re as skinny as I am, tell him
He should kick it over at least twice in a month.

That was my good time.

I’ll say hello to my dear grandmother who had
Passed on and left me her record player, that’s how
I heard the greats pour their souls onto vinyl and I
Danced with my girlfriend in the kitchen one night and I had
Damn near asked her if she’d be my wife, but you can
Leave it to that little nephew of mine, just tell him
He should listen closely for the secrets to life.

That was my good time.
Track Name: Stranger To Me
I had forgotten there’s no lunch for free.
Those shiny lures had got their hooks in me.
The car, the house, the debt, the loan, the crutch;
Now I’m just looking for some honesty, I’m not asking much.

Are you living someone else’s dream?
Do you wakeup in that cold sweat scream?
Everybody’s got to have their code;
I’m turning on and tuning in and writing mine my friends, I’ll see you down the road.

I’ve been up, I’ve been down
I’ve been north, I’ve been south
And I’ve been…
From the east to the west
And my head is a mess and I need…
A moment to recollect and to figure out how it can be,
That I’m a stranger to me.

You have to live with what you really need.
You have to earn something and really bleed.
The path of least resistance makes you numb;
But when you lean into the wind it doesn’t matter where you’ve been coming from.

I’ve been up, I’ve been down
I’ve been north, I’ve been south
And I’ve been…
From the east to the west
Yet my head is a mess and I need…
A moment to recollect and to figure out how it can be,
That I’m a stranger to me.

I’ve been up, I’ve been down
I’ve been north, I’ve been south
And I’ve been…
From the east to the west
Yet my head is a mess and I see…
That everybody has changed and I’ve become a stranger to me…
I’m a stranger to me.
Track Name: Unlucky In Love
I had a long-legged lover who was burning me out.
I had a long-legged lover who was burning me out.
She’d drink some gin then scream and shout, she’d break my things, and she’d lock me out of the house.
I had a long-legged lover who was burning me out.

I had a blonde-haired woman who tried to lead me to God.
I had a blonde-haired woman who tried to lead me to God.
No blood, no wine, no lightning rod could make me right, I was already too far gone.
I had a blonde-haired woman who tried to lead me to God.

I had brunette bombshell knocking me out.
I had brunette bombshell knocking me out.
Her mattress was more like a title bout, her boxing ring, and I was just prey to devour…
I had brunette bombshell knocking me out.

I had a cow-eyed gal she was making me poor.
I had a cow-eyed gal she was making me poor.
I dug debt so deep I struck iron-ore, but she sold that off and bought a new dress from the store.
When I had a cow-eyed gal who was making me poor (but no more).
Track Name: High Walls
You are building up such high walls,
For the pick-up lines and cat calls.

There’s a reverence,
And a revelry,
between night and day.
Where the cigarette
smoke clung to you
and a black ashtray
Where anxious highs and lows were smoked and blown away.

You are building up such high walls,
For graffiti you will recall,

When you reminisce
Those times you’ll miss,
Will be tagged some place,
In your memory,
Hiding hauntingly
‘neath a coat of paint.
All those patrons, perverts, friends, sinners and saints.

You are building up such high walls,
For the pick-up lines and cat calls.
There’s a reverence,
And a revelry,
between night and day.
Where the cigarette
smoke clung to you as you'd dance and sway.
Track Name: Adam & Eve
Adam was the first man to fall in love,
He saw Eve and knew what he was empty of.
But her extracurricular activity with a snake,
Was more than Adam’s human heart could take.

Eve knew she’d been carved out of that man.
And she loved him from the day her life began.
But Adam eating fruit from every branch that he could shake,
was more than poor Eve’s human heart could take.

So she asked the good Lord if he’d let ‘em part.
She don’t care that’s his rib around her heart.
She said “I want my alimony, I’ll take what I can take”
Then Adam wondered if he’d made a big mistake.

But out of spite he’d fight her to the death,
For the custody of Cain, Abel and Seth.
That serpent from the tree said “I will sue her for a fee,
That’s the answer when two people disagree”.

Adam asked the good Lord if he’d shed some light.
But there were no lightbulbs in Eden’s dark of night.
When Adam realized history had yet to begin he muttered..
“Goddamn it Eve, I guess you win”.
